WHAT IS GLYCOLIC ACID?: Glycolic acid is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is derived from sugar cane, so it can be considered a natural product. Citric acid from oranges and other citrus fruits also fall under the same classification as glycolic acid.  Glycolic acid works as an exfoliating agent because of its high acidity but easy solubility. Glycolic Acid goes under the damaged upper layers of skin and destroys the 'glue' which holds dead skin to the surface. As this dead skin is chemically burned off, the other ingredients carry the individual flakes away and a water rinse neutralizes the remaining acid. The result is a much-smoother skin surface and a more youthful appearance. A secondary benefit is glycolic acid's ability to draw moisturizers into the newly-exfoliated skin surface.

WHAT ARE ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS?: Alpha hydroxy acids are an entire family of acids, which can be derived from fruit, milk or sugar. These are most widely used in skin care products as an anti-aging agent.  These can be found as glycolic acid (made from sugar) and lactic acid (made from milk). HOW DOES A CHEMICAL PEEL WORK?: During a chemical peel, an acidic solution (Glycolic Acid) is painted on the skin, allowed to work for a few minutes, and rinsed off. Treated skin then flakes or peels off over several days.

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING A PEEL?: You may experience slight stinging or tingling while the glycolic acid is on the skin. The skin may turn pink, but will return to its normal color within 1 to 2 days. When used correctly there shouldn't be any redness, burning, or blistering. If you experience these symptoms seek medical treatment and discontinue use. This will happen when the product is not used correctly, you are using too high of glycolic acid strength, or if your skin is too sensitive to handle a chemical peel. It is normal for the skin to peel and appear flaky 1 to 2 days after use. That means the product is working. This is the dead skin shedding, allowing a healthy layer to come to the surface. If heavy peeling or slight scabbing occurs, apply a petroleum based product, or antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) to help speed healing.
 

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PEEL STRENGTH:  If you have never had a chemical peel before, or if you have sensitive skin, it is recommended that first time users start with the 20% or 30% glycolic acid solution and leave on the skin for only 1-2 minutes.

Test a tiny, small portion of your skin under the jaw bone to see how well your skin tolerates each percentage of glycolic acid peel. The 40% and 50% level of Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel is recommended for people who have used this product previously and know that their skin can tolerate this level of strength.

• 10%  Supper Mild for the faint at heart. Productive but slow results
• 20%  Extra Mild Peel for sensitive or fair skin and 1st time users. Your results will be slower
• 30%  Mild Peel for 1st time users and sensitive skin
• 40%  Medium Peel for someone that has had a peel before, doesn't have sensitive skin, use for minor skin flaws
• 50%  Medium - Strong Peel for people that have had peels before, and have acne, scars and skin flaws
• 60%  Strong peel for experienced users that have acne, deeper scars, serious skin flaws
• 70%  This is the highest strength dilution for skin and we highly suggest this be administered by a professional.

SUNBURN ALERT: This product contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that is likely increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.

DIRECTIONS:

1.       Skin Patch Test - Always do a skin patch test before applying the Glycolic Peel Solution.  Choose a small area and dab on the peel solution.  Watch the area for blistering and intense burning for about 2 to 3 minutes.  There will be a mild burning and general redness.

2.       Cleanse the area you are treating with Tru Skin Solutions Glycolic Renewing Cleanser.

3.       Rinse with clean warm water and gently pat dry.

4.       Apply Tru Skin Solutions Renewing Toner to remove all traces of dirt, dead skin or cleanser and let dry, do not rinse.

5.       Apply a small amount of  Glycolic Peel solution to the areas cleansed and toned (Do not rub into skin)

6.       Leave on for recommended amount of time.

7.       Rinse product from skin with cool clean water mixed with a pinch of baking soda to neutralize and pat dry
